About the museum
The Dom Morświna (House of the Porpoise) is an educational and exhibition facility of the Marine Station named after Prof. Krzysztof Skóra, which belongs to the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography of the University of Gdańsk. It opened to visitors in September 2013. It was the first fully equipped educational and exhibition building in the Blue Village (Błękitna Wioska), the complex of the station's buildings in Hel.
The house is a micromuseum devoted to the porpoise, a species threatened in the Baltic. The exhibition presents the biology of porpoises, their history, current threats and ways of protecting them, with particular attention to the ASCOBANS agreement. It consists of static and multimedia exhibitions, includes documentary films about dolphins and whales recently seen in Polish Baltic waters, and also an element of a mobile exhibition.
The building stands at ul. Rybacka, near the Small Beach (Mała Plaża) and the former naval port. It complements a visit to the Hel Peninsula; the station also runs a seal pool (fokarium) and a seal rehabilitation centre in Hel.
