About the museum

The Galeria Muzealna im. Michała Klahra Starszego (Michał Klahr the Elder Museum Gallery) is located on the market square in Lądek-Zdrój, in the former house of the Silesian Baroque sculptor Michał Klahr the Elder. The first building on this site burned down in the great fire of the town in 1739, and the present townhouse was rebuilt in the second half of the 18th century. The building was entered in the register of monuments in 1964.

Klahr lived and worked here from 1724 until his death in 1742; his studio was also located in the townhouse. The façade is decorated with a portal with a polychrome relief of the Madonna and Child, and the artist's coat of arms with the date 1723.

After a general renovation, the building was opened as a museum gallery, in 2006 or 2007. It displays exhibits relating to the past of the Lądek-Zdrój commune and spa, including the wooden figure “Tron Mądrości” (Throne of Wisdom) and a commemorative plaque.
