About the museum
Tadeusz Kantor lived in a tenement house at ul. Sienna in the last years of his life, and in 1987–1990 he created his final works here. After his death the flat was kept in the state in which the artist left it for the last time: with furniture, papers, drawings, souvenirs from travels and personal objects.
The place was opened to visitors in 1995. The Galeria-Pracownia is a branch of the Cricoteka, the Ośrodek Dokumentacji Sztuki Tadeusza Kantora (Tadeusz Kantor Art Documentation Centre). The gallery space, where drawings are shown, was designed by the artist himself during his lifetime; before the celebrations of Kantor’s hundredth birthday, the whole was renovated.
The basis of the permanent exhibition is the Pokój Tadeusza Kantora (Tadeusz Kantor’s Room). Next to it, in an adjoining hall, temporary exhibitions take place with works by Kantor and by artists associated with him or with his work. The flat can also be viewed on a virtual 360° walk with Polish and English commentary, available on the Cricoteka website.
