About the museum

The Museum and Archive of Blessed Maria Angela Truszkowska is located in an old tenement house from the 14th century, on the corner of ul. Mikołajska and ul. św. Krzyża in Kraków, about 200 m east of St. Mary's Basilica (Bazylika Mariacka). For more than 500 years it was home to Kraków burghers. In 1860 Pelagia Russanowska gave the building to the Felician Sisters for a home for poor children.

The museum began its work on 11 October 1999, on the centenary of the death of Blessed Maria Angela Truszkowska, founder of the Congregation of the Felician Sisters. The institution is meant to promote devotion to the Blessed, enrich visitors spiritually and make the archival documents available for study.

The permanent exhibition includes, among other things, the family room with the story of Maria Angela's childhood and youth; the room in which she lived from 1866 to 1870, with the oldest portrait of the founder, dating from 1924; the room of history and spirituality of the Congregation; and the room of liturgical relics, with chasubles embroidered by the Blessed. The archive holds manuscripts, correspondence and documents from the beatification process, and the library collects books published up to 1900, including early prints and editions of the Wujek Bible.
