About the museum
Hydropolis is a centre of knowledge about water, set up in a historic 19th-century underground reservoir of clean water on the grounds of the former Na Grobli waterworks. The post-industrial site was revitalised and opened to visitors in 2015 as an example of combining the protection of a monument with a modern exhibition.
The centre is run by the Miejskie Przedsiębiorstwo Wodociągów i Kanalizacji (Municipal Water and Sewerage Company) in Wrocław, which has nearly 150 years of tradition and supplies water to several hundred thousand customers. Hydropolis is the most visible expression of its educational mission.
The exhibition consists of seven permanent thematic zones, including Planeta Wody (Planet of Water) with a 360-degree projection, Głębiny (Depths), Ocean Życia (Ocean of Life) and the zone Człowiek i Woda (Man and Water). A separate zone with multimedia games has been prepared for children, and in the spring and summer season the longest water printer in Europe, 46.5 metres long, operates before the entrance.
