About the museum

The Railway Tradition Room (Kolejowa Izba Tradycji) was set up on the initiative of several railwaymen, including three former locomotive drivers and one who is still working, who act on a voluntary basis and save railway memorabilia from destruction. The first exhibition was set up in the administrative building of Toruń Kluczyki station, where it operated from 2015 to 2017. Since 21 March 2017 the room has been located at Toruń Główny station, in the former building of the station post office.

The collections include historic railway clocks, semaphores, lamps, plates and barrier gates, old tickets, the accessories of conductors and drivers, caps, a teleprinter, archival photographs and documents, and a ticket office from the 1950s. The display is complemented by first- and second-class compartments and a driver's position, and many exhibits can be touched.

Since 2018 the activity has been run by the Toruńska Kolejowa Izba Tradycji Association (Stowarzyszenie Toruńska Kolejowa Izba Tradycji), which is financially supported by the regional carrier. The Toruń Regional Museum (Muzeum Okręgowe w Toruniu) cooperates with the room and has provided display cases. The room is small and not always known to passengers, as it is located further inside the station building, beyond the main hall.
