About the museum
The exhibition is housed in the undercroft of the Franciscan monastery on Góra Przemysła in Poznań, near the Old Market Square (Stary Rynek). Its author is Krzysztof Przybyła, who for many years built successive models. The history of the city is presented as a spectacle in which light, sound and special effects accompany a recorded historical commentary.
The largest model, with an area of 50 m² at a scale of 1:150, shows Poznań after the engravings of Braun and Hogenberg of 1618. It includes the city centre within the medieval walls, and miniatures of Ostrów Tumski and of the suburbs of Chwaliszewo, Garbary, St Martin and St Adalbert. The show lasts 27 minutes and is accompanied by smoke, lightning and fire effects.
The second model, with an area of 27 m² at a scale of 1:60, is devoted to the stronghold of the first Piasts on Ostrów Tumski in the first quarter of the 11th century, in the time of Bolesław the Brave and Mieszko II. It was made mainly of natural materials, and the presentation is complemented by a laser show. A third model, of the Old Market Square at a scale of 1:100, is intended for blind people.
