About the museum
The museum opened in June 1989 on the initiative of the History of Pharmacy Section of the Polish Pharmaceutical Society. It was initially located at Stary Rynek 41. In September 1992 the collections were taken over by the Greater Poland Regional Pharmaceutical Chamber; in 1996 the museum moved to its present seat, and it was officially opened in January 2000.
The collections include pharmacy vessels of wood, glass, stoneware and porcelain, mainly from the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, with individual objects from the end of the 17th century, as well as cast-iron mortars, including 19th-century ones, and laboratory equipment and pharmacy utensils. A separate part is the pharmacy hall from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, moved from Miłosław near Września.
The museum also has a specialist library of around 1,200 volumes, which includes a few early prints. The collections are looked after by Dr Stefan Piechocki, PhD in pharmacy.
