About the museum
The Małe Muzeum Ludowe u Kowalskich (Little Folk Museum at the Kowalskis’) in Marcinowo grew out of the collection of Marian Kowalski, who for more than forty years collected and restored old tools, household utensils and agricultural machines, rescuing them from villages where traditional objects were falling out of use. The institution has been entered in the register of museums, and its rules were approved by the Ministry of Culture.
The collections, numbering according to different descriptions from about one thousand to about three thousand objects, are arranged in several rooms. They include old toys, typewriters and sewing machines, clocks, furniture, chests, folk costumes, prams, dolls, paraffin lamps, weapons, firefighting equipment and horse-drawn vehicles. The Dom Chleba (House of Bread) shows a kitchen with pewter and stone vessels and a pre-war Belgian oven. Guests can try bread baked in an old bread oven.
The grounds also include a former forge, a craftsman’s room with agricultural tools, a harness room and a restored historic electric carousel. The founder, born in 1938, is also the creator of the folk ensemble “Marciny”. The owner often tells the story of the exhibits in person.
