About the museum

The idea of a fishing museum in Milicz arose as early as the 1970s. At first a memorial room was set up, and after the creation of the fishing combine in 1976 the collecting of old fishing equipment became an organised activity, supported by the National Museum in Wrocław and the National Museum of Agriculture in Szreniawa. In 1995 the collected exhibits were handed over to the Ethnographic Museum, a branch of the National Museum in Wrocław, and the mechanised equipment went to Szreniawa.

The museum in its present form was established in 2015 on the initiative of the company Stawy Milickie SA and is located in the complex of the Naturum Educational and Tourist Centre in Ruda Sułowska. Almost all of the 106 exhibits previously handed over to the Ethnographic Museum, mainly tools and devices connected with fish farming, have been included in the display. Most of them date from the 1950s.

The museum currently presents two exhibitions: Skansen, consisting of tools and devices for pond management made available by the Ethnographic Museum in Wrocław, and Dom Rybaka (Fisherman’s House), which shows the history of the Stawy Milickie fish farm on the basis of the company’s own collections. Admission is free.
