About the museum

The Museum of the 4th Podhale Rifles Regiment (Muzeum 4 Pułku Strzelców Podhalańskich) in Cieszyn is a private institution entered in the register of private museums kept by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. It was ceremonially opened on 16 February 2008 thanks to the efforts of the Military Enthusiasts Section within the Macierz Ziemi Cieszyńskiej association; its founder is Krzysztof Neścior. The museum is located in the cellar of the building at ul. Frysztacka 2 and is run on a voluntary basis.

The exhibition tells the story of the 4th Podhale Rifles Regiment, which was stationed in Cieszyn from 1920, and of aviation episodes in Cieszyn Silesia between 1937 and 1945. The exhibits include a restored cart for the Biedka wz. 33 heavy machine gun, an Elfa-Sachs liaison motorcycle from 1938, pre-war military bicycles, replica weapons, uniforms, a soldier's equipment from 1939, and aircraft parts, including those from the Messerschmitt Bf 109, Jak-9, Il-2 and Liberator B-24. All the collections come from private owners.

The museum also looks after a Polish combat bunker from 1939 in Cieszyn-Boguszowice. A historical reenactment group operates alongside the museum; on various occasions it presents the uniforms and equipment of pre-war Podhale units.
