About the museum
The main building of the museum is the spacious larch-wood manor house in Sucha, built in 1743 on the initiative of Ignacy Cieszkowski, castellan of Liw. The Baroque single-storey building has corner alcoves and a high roof covered with shingles; in 1843 a Classicist three-arched portico bearing the Dołęga coat of arms was added. In 1787 King Stanisław August Poniatowski visited the manor, and in 1814 the philosopher and economist August Cieszkowski was born here.
After the land reform of 1945 employees of the State Fishery Farm moved into the manor, and the building fell into decay. In 1988 the ruined structure was bought by Maria and Marek Kwiatkowski, who carried out a thorough reconstruction: the manor received a new shingled roof and new window and door joinery, and wherever possible the old floors and five pairs of original doors were preserved. The solemn reopening, now as a museum, took place on 14 October 1993, on the 250th anniversary of the manor.
The interiors are furnished with pieces from various periods, mainly Biedermeier and eclectic furniture of the 19th century, as well as paintings, watercolours, drawings, small sculptures and objects of applied art that evoke the atmosphere of the Polish noble manor. On the grounds next to the manor an open-air museum of wooden architecture of the Siedlce region has been created, with, among others, a manor house from Rudzienko of 1825, a Dutch windmill from Ostrówek, an inn from Skrzeszew, a parsonage from Grębków, a belfry from Miedzna and cottages from Szaniaw Matysów and Jagodne.
