About the museum
The museum’s exhibition opened on 31 August 1982 in the casemate corridor of the former Western Viaduct of Winiary Fort, part of the Poznań fortress built in the first half of the 19th century. The corridor, today called the Mała Śluza (Little Lock), linked Winiary Fort with the Fort St Wojciech (Hakego). The museum now belongs to the Greater Poland Museum of Independence.
The collections focus on the history of the Polish Army in the interwar period, especially on units associated with Greater Poland. The permanent exhibition ‘Wierni przysiędze’ (Faithful to the Oath) presents the combat path of the Poznań Army in September 1939, up to the battle on the Bzura.
The museum is located in Cytadela Park, on the grounds of the former fortress, next to the Museum of Armaments.
