About the museum

The Muzeum Augusta Zamoyskiego in Jabłoń commemorates the sculptor, born in Jabłoń in 1893, who died in France in 1970. The institution began as the Izba Pamięci Augusta Zamoyskiego (Memorial Room of August Zamoyski), opened on 5 November 1994 in the boarding house of the agricultural school in Jabłoń, with the support of the Krajowe Towarzystwo Uniwersytetów Ludowych (National Association of Folk Universities).

In 2003, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Jabłoń, the collections were moved to the present location, and on 18 September 2011 the Muzeum Augusta Zamoyskiego was opened. It is housed in a former farm labourers' cottage (czworak) of the manor complex, where a commune cultural centre had previously operated. The reconstruction project was carried out by Jabłoń commune together with the Stowarzyszenie Miłośników Ziemi Jabłońskiej (Association of Friends of the Jabłoń Land) and the Muzeum Zamoyskich w Kozłówce. A solemn reopening took place on 23 May 2021.

The collections include souvenirs of the Zamoyski family, photographs, letters and documents, correspondence with residents of Jabłoń, and recorded memories of people who knew the artist. Zamoyski's main archive has been held since 2007 at the Muzeum Literatury in Warsaw. The exhibition shows the life and work of the sculptor, his connection with Jabłoń and his passion for sport and travel.
