About the museum

The Muzeum Misyjno-Ornitologiczne w Kodniu opened in 1999. It is run by the Zgromadzenie Misjonarzy Oblatów Maryi Niepokalanej (Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate), which looks after the Basilica of St Anne and the sanctuary of Our Lady of Kodeń. The museum occupies two rooms in the monastery building behind the basilica, near the monastery gate.

The first room displays objects brought back by missionaries from mission countries, among them parts of costumes, everyday objects and musical instruments, as well as the ornithological collection of Fr Kazimierz Kozicki, including the eggs of many bird species found in Poland.

The second room recalls the history of the sanctuary and the town. It contains images of Our Lady of Kodeń, old liturgical vestments, books and chalices, and also old coins and banknotes. According to the regional tourism portal the museum is open all year round and every day.
