About the museum
The Skansen Kultury Materialnej Chełmszczyzny i Podlasia w Holi was established in 1985. From the start it has been largely run on a voluntary basis by the Towarzystwo Miłośników Skansenu Kultury Materialnej Chełmszczyzny i Podlasia w Holi (society of friends of the open-air museum), supported by Stary Brus commune.
The open-air museum brings together wooden buildings and farm structures from the region. The most important part is a prosperous peasant cottage from Wyryk, dating from 1913, built in log construction, with a two-pitched roof thatched with straw. In addition there is a barn from Okczyn, a koźlak windmill (trestle-type) from the early 20th century, a smithy, a roadside shrine from Wyryk, a pottery kiln, bee logs and a well crane.
In 2020 a storm tore the thatch off the cottage from Wyryk and damaged the windmill's sails; the roof was renovated, and further repair work depended on grants. Near the open-air museum stands a wooden church from 1702 with an 18th-century belfry, and a historic Orthodox cemetery. Every year in July the Jarmark Holeński (Hola Fair) is held here.
