About the museum
The Educational and Museum Centre in Stare Załucze is one of the educational centres of the Polesie National Park. It consists of the museum building, a museum shelter, the “Żółwik” (Little Turtle) trail with a pond, an animal rehabilitation centre with a bird aviary, and a tourist shelter with a place for a bonfire.
The museum section holds archaeological, ethnographic, historical (militaria, coins, documents) and natural history collections, as well as exhibits showing the cultural heritage of Western Polesie. In the shelter stand large ethnographic objects that did not fit into the building, including a sąsiek hollowed out of the trunk of a 250-year-old pine, and peasant wagons and light carriages (bryczki) once made in Stare Załucze.
The “Żółwik” trail presents information on the European pond turtle and on the structure of the forest and its inhabitants; at the pond an adult turtle can sometimes be seen. The centre is currently closed for renovation until further notice.
