About the museum
Near Dunino, on 26 August 1813, one of the battles of the Napoleonic Wars was fought – the battle of the Kaczawa. Prussian and Russian forces under Blücher defeated the French army of Marshal Macdonald. To commemorate the event, a stone mound topped with a pyramid of cannonballs was erected in 1908, and in 1909 a pavilion in the shape of a polygonal rotunda was built, in which an exhibition of memorabilia from the Napoleonic Wars, obtained from private individuals, was set up.
The museum operated until 1945 and was reopened in 1996. It is housed in the historic pavilion by the river and is one of the smallest free-standing museums in Silesia. It is looked after by the gminny ośrodek kultury (municipal cultural centre) in Krotoszyce.
The collection includes elements of weapons and uniforms, documents, old prints, situation sketches and coloured copper engravings connected with the battle. The museum is complemented by the nearby battle monument on the flood embankment above the Nysa Szalona.
