About the museum

The “Dom Szewca” (Cobbler’s House) museum opened in September 1984. It is housed in a wooden townhouse from the mid-18th century, partly of half-timbered construction with a shingle roof, on Pszczew’s market square. The institution is a municipal unit operating within the Gmina Culture Centre in Pszczew.

Former rooms have been reconstructed inside: the entrance hall, the so-called black kitchen, a cobbler’s workshop and a cobbler’s shop from the early 20th century, which belonged to Feliks Paździorek. Further rooms are devoted to the history and archaeology of Pszczew and its surroundings. The exhibition “Pszczew. A Small Town, Many Cultures” presents the former inhabitants of the town, and models show the Catholic church of St Mary Magdalene, a former Evangelical church and a synagogue. The collections also include elements of Lemko costume.

The museum operates seasonally: from May to September visits take place at the announced times, and from October to April after prior arrangement by phone. The building also houses a tourist information point with a souvenir shop.
