About the museum
The Muzeum Energetyki Podkarpackiej opened in 2009 at the seat of the energy company on ul. 8 Marca in Rzeszów. It was founded by the Rzeszowski Zakład Energetyczny (Rzeszów Power Utility), and today it is looked after by a company of the PGE group. The exhibition presents more than a century of power engineering in the Podkarpacie region, whose beginnings go back to 1909, and the people who created it.
The collections include old fitters’ tools, electricity meters from the factory of Kazimierz Szpotański, ammeters, voltmeters, wattmeters and a milliammeter from 1935, as well as clocks from an old power station and wired and radio communication devices, including an amateur radio station from 1943. Also shown is a fragment of the underground cable that supplied the castle in Łańcut, information on the beginnings of electrification in Łańcut, lightning conductors, and Father Józef Herman Osiński, a pioneer of electrical engineering and lightning protection.
Curiosities include the Polish Meritum microcomputer from 1985, an exhibition on the only 750 kV power line in Poland, and specialist vehicles of power engineers, such as lifting platforms, an emergency service vehicle and a cable laboratory. Visitors are guided by a guide, and demonstrations, for example of Tesla transformer discharges, are organised during the Museums Night.
