About the museum
The Muzeum Mleczarstwa (Museum of Dairying) is located in Rzeszów, in the former production halls of a school dairy, on the grounds of the Tadeusz Rylski school. The school descends from the Krajowa Szkoła Mleczarska (National Dairy School), founded in 1903. The first exhibition was organised in 1953, and in 1974, on the initiative of the director Jan Łabaj, the Szkolna Izba Pamięci (School Memorial Room) was opened.
The museum was established in 1986, and in May 1988 the exhibition of dairy equipment and machines was opened to visitors. The patronage of the institution is exercised by the Krajowy Związek Spółdzielni Mleczarskich (National Union of Dairy Cooperatives).
The collections include dairy machines and equipment, the oldest of which date from the end of the 19th century: centrifuges, pasteurisers, butter churns, and cheese moulds and presses. The collection of separators is particularly well known, from models used in manor dairies to later machines. A separate exhibition presents the history of dairying in Galicia, and another the history of the school and its patron. One of the exhibits is a 1939 Audi car with cross-sections of its components, formerly used for teaching purposes.
