About the museum
The Muzeum Fabryki (Factory Museum) has operated in the Manufaktura since 2007 and tells the story of the textile works that Izrael Poznański created in the second half of the 19th century. In its heyday the factory produced millions of metres of cotton fabric, and Poznański’s industrial empire was a self-sufficient district with the owner’s residence, workers’ housing, its own church and a hospital.
The permanent exhibition was designed and created by Mirosław Nizio. It is multimedia in form and shows the history of the Poznański family’s fortune, the development of the works, the technique of cotton fabric production and the daily work of the workers. Visitors can see photographs, documents, films, architectural plans and samples of raw materials and factory products, and listen to the recollections of former employees.
During the presentation 19th-century looms are at work, so visitors see how cotton becomes yarn and then fabric. The exhibition also presents the journey of cotton from the plantation through the factory to the fabric shop, as well as the finishing and quality-control process. The museum is on the second floor of the former printing house, and visitors may also go out onto a terrace with a view of the whole Manufaktura.
