About the museum

The museum opened in May 2001, on the 90th anniversary of the founding of scouting in Polish lands. It is a biographical museum devoted to Olga and Andrzej Małkowski, who were connected with Zakopane, and a part of the history of the scouting movement. The exhibition is created and run by the Stowarzyszenie Muzeum Harcerskie im. Olgi i Andrzeja Małkowskich w Zakopanem (Association of the Olga and Andrzej Małkowski Scouting Museum in Zakopane).

The collections are currently displayed in the “Czerwony Dwór” (Red Manor) villa on Kasprusie Street. The collection includes family memorabilia of the Małkowski family, including furniture, documents, photographs, uniforms and books, as well as three handwritten diaries of Olga Małkowska. Among the most valuable exhibits is Andrzej Małkowski’s book “Skauting jako system wychowania młodzieży” (Scouting as a System of Youth Education) from 1911, considered the oldest Polish book on scouting.

The museum also collects documentation on the history of scouting in Zakopane and the Podhale region, as well as scouting publications and periodicals.
