About the museum
The Museum of the History of Clothing (Muzeum Historii Ubioru) is an independent museum devoted to the history of clothing and its role in everyday life, culture and social change. It collects, studies and presents historical garments and objects connected with the culture of dress. It is financed from its own funds and the support of donors.
The organisational and administrative work of the museum is run by the Fundacja Muzeum Historii Ubioru (Museum of the History of Clothing Foundation), a non-profit organisation that supports the protection of heritage, education and the popularisation of knowledge about the history of clothing. The museum has a very large collection, larger than its small seat, and therefore shows it in parts in thematic temporary exhibitions.
As well as the exhibitions, the museum runs educational activities, organises workshops for children and young people and lectures, and a historical costume studio operates. The mission of the institution is to protect the heritage of clothing and to show clothing as a record of social, economic, technological and aesthetic change.
