About the museum

The Muzeum Historyczne “Skarb” is run by the Stowarzyszenie Przyjaciół Ziemi Polickiej “Skarb” (Association of Friends of the Police Region “Skarb”), which since 2006 has been collecting, conserving and presenting artefacts connected with the history of Police and the surrounding area. It began with a historical gallery and tours of ruins, and in 2010 it officially opened the museum in two post-war bunkers on ul. Spółdzielcza.

The exhibitions relate to the history of the town and in particular to the former synthetic petrol factory Hydrierwerke Pölitz AG, which supplied the German army during the Second World War. Prisoners from concentration camps worked at the plant under harsh conditions, and part of the exhibition tells their story.

The collection is divided into four sections. The Regional History section presents the development of the town, everyday life and war memorabilia. The Utility Technology section shows old dial telephones, the first computers and household and office equipment. The Weapons section gathers edged weapons, firearms and armour, uniforms, helmets and protective masks, and the Documents section presents documents and photographs, mainly from the Second World War. Visits are guided and lead through the exhibition and the ruins of the factory.
