About the museum
The Lubin Historical Museum was established by resolution of the Town Council in May 2016 and officially opened on 17 May 2018. It is housed in the town hall on the market square, built in 1768–1769 on the site of a Gothic-Renaissance complex of buildings and restored in 2014–2016. In the following year the museum was merged with the “Wzgórze Zamkowe” Cultural Centre.
The permanent exhibitions in the town hall include “Zbrodnia Lubińska” (Lubin Crime) on the events of 31 August 1982, “The History of the Town against the Background of Everyday Life”, with the interior of a miner’s family flat from the 1950s–1980s, an exhibition on Lower Silesian cartography, and displays on sport and culture in Lubin. The Galeria Pałacyk at ul. Skłodowskiej-Curie, opened in May 2023 in a historic villa, shows exhibitions of visual art.
In 2018 the museum began revitalising the Forest Park, which covers more than 27 hectares, and created an open-air museum there (the Military Park). It includes the educational trail “Great War 1914–1918” with trenches and historic railway wagons, adapted former Soviet-era bunkers with the exhibition “Soviet Occupation in Poland 1939–1993”, the exhibition “ORP Orzeł Did Not Return”, and a historic artillery firing range from the 1930s. The park also has a rope park and a playground.
