About the museum
The Museum of the Mała Panew Valley Ironworks has operated since December 2012 and is run by the Mała Panew Valley Association, registered in 2006 as an organisation for public benefit. It is housed in the former administration building of the Prussian Royal Malapane Ironworks, right by the historic cast-iron suspension bridge over the Mała Panew from 1827, the most important monument in Ozimek.
The Malapane Ironworks, whose traditions are continued by the Huta Małapanew, still in operation today, is regarded as the oldest active ironworks in Poland. The permanent exhibition presents the history of ironmaking in the Mała Panew valley, mainly in the 18th and 19th centuries, including the experience of producing iron bridges from the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
The collections include cast-iron pots and vessels, stoves and utility products, tools, artistic and church cast iron, medals and plaques, as well as weapons and armament. The museum also shows prints, cartographic documents and objects from private and association collections. It organises lectures and events such as the Bridge and Cast Iron Festival (Święto Mostu i Żeliwa), and meetings of enthusiasts of artistic cast iron.
