About the museum
The room is housed in a wooden cottage built around 1780 next to the former iron foundry of Count Filip Colonna. The building is the oldest structure in Kolonowskie from the time of the settlement’s founding, and originally housed the foundry manager’s flat and offices. The foundry was closed at the beginning of the 20th century, and the cottage later served as an evangelical school and finally as rented flats. In 1998 the building passed into the ownership of the gmina of Kolonowskie.
Since 1996 the house has been looked after by local activists, who saved it from destruction. The initiator of the work was the parish priest from Zawadzkie, Wolfgang Globisch, supported by members of the Kolping Family Association (Stowarzyszenie Rodzina Kolpinga). The cottage was then adapted for exhibition purposes and a regional room opened in it; the roof was renovated in 2009.
The room holds memorabilia of Kolonowskie’s past: documents and archive maps, ironworks tools and equipment, household items, traditional costumes, a wieloch (bread oven) and a historic dugout canoe recovered from the bottom of the Mała Panew. There are also old school textbooks. Agricultural machines are shown in a separate pavilion, and in front of the cottage stands a monument to the town’s founder, Filip Colonna.
