About the museum
JuraPark Krasiejów was established on the site of a former quarry at Krasiejów, where one of the largest accumulations of Triassic reptile and amphibian fossils in Europe was found. The remains are about 225 million years old, which makes them older than dinosaur remains. The most important find is Silesaurus opolensis, dubbed the Silesian pre-dinosaur.
The central object is the Palaeontological Pavilion, a glass-and-concrete structure that protects the escarpment of the former open-cast mine and the fossils in their place of discovery. Through a glass floor one can view the accumulation of remains, mainly of metoposaurs and cyclotosaurs, and the pavilion also displays a reconstruction of the Silesaurus skeleton. The building received the SARP (Association of Polish Architects) award for the best facility completed in Poland in 2006.
The park runs an educational trail about 1,500 m long with nearly 200 life-size models of reptiles, amphibians and dinosaurs, as well as the Prehistoric Oceanarium, the Time Tunnel and the Park of Human Science and Evolution, which presents the history of life on Earth. The park is operated by the company DLF Invest.
