About the museum

The Museum of Polish Song in Opole operates in a city known for its Polish song festivals. The permanent exhibition opened to visitors on 27 August 2016 in the Tysiąclecia Amphitheatre, while the institution’s official seat is at Plac Kopernika.

The exhibition outlines the history of Polish song from the 1920s to the present. Two musical walls with touch screens serve as multimedia players and show music videos, excerpts from concerts, TV programmes, reports and interviews with artists. Every visitor receives an audio guide and headphones, so they choose the songs and their own pace.

The museum also has recording booths, where visitors can record their favourite song, virtual dressing mirrors, a wardrobe of costumes, tablet islands and a zone devoted to the Opole festivals. Display cases show real stage costumes of Polish stars, and the collections include documents, photographs, manuscripts, posters, instruments and records. The museum organises meetings with artists, concerts, temporary exhibitions and educational activities for children and young people.
