About the museum

The museum’s origins are linked to the collecting passion of Aleksander Kłosiński (1892–1974), who in his will bequeathed to the town the historical souvenirs he had collected all his life. On this basis, in 1977, on the town’s 700th anniversary, the Historical Collections of the City of Kęty were established, housed in a townhouse at ul. Mickiewicza 1. In 1983 the Muzeum Okręgowe w Bielsku-Białej (Bielsko-Biała District Museum) took the collections under its patronage, and in 1994 the institution was named after Aleksander Kłosiński.

In 1995 the exhibition was moved to a historic townhouse on the Kęty market square. In 2003 the first-floor rooms were renovated, where offices, rooms for temporary exhibitions and the recurring meetings “Wieczory przy armacie” (Evenings by the Cannon) were set up. In 2004 the Kęty commune established an independent institution, which took over the care of the collections.

The collection numbers more than 4,000 exhibits documenting the history, art and everyday life of Kęty and the surrounding area, including militaria and old elements of weaving and furriers’ workshops. Since March 2005 the ground floor has housed a permanent exhibition with historical, artistic and burgher rooms and an ethnographic section.
