About the museum
The museum is in the house at ul. Wacława Nałkowskiego in Wołomin, the former family home of the writer Zofia Nałkowska (1884–1954), of her father Wacław Nałkowski, a geographer and publicist, and of her sister, the sculptor Hanna Nałkowska. The house on Górki, also called the house over the meadows, was a well-known literary salon at the beginning of the twentieth century. In her diaries Nałkowska called the place enchanted; the house stood among pines, orchards and terraces.
The museum was founded in 1992 on the initiative of the town of Wołomin. After the war the house stood on a devastated hill, with damaged terraces and lost orchards, and the park was restored only much later. The institution collects mementos of the Nałkowski family and organises exhibitions, concerts, meetings and events such as Noc Muzeów (Museum Night), as well as museum lessons for kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools.
