About the museum

The museum was founded in 1966 on the initiative of Bolesław Indyk, Stanisław Chmielewicz and Jan Bausmer and is housed in the building of the Zespół Szkół Geodezyjno-Drogowych in Poznań. In 2006 it was given the name of Bolesław Indyk. The museum has taken part in Museum Night (Noc Muzeów) since 2017.

The collection includes more than one hundred surveying instruments and devices that were once used to train future surveyors. Among them are levels, theodolites, compasses, arithmometers, planimeters and tachymeters. The oldest exhibits are levels from 1884 and from the years 1900–1910 by the firm F. W. Breithaupt & Sohn of Kassel, as well as a theodolite by the Prague firm Jos. & Jan Frič from the years 1890–1900.
