About the museum
Koniaków lace is the technique of hand-crocheting doilies from fine threads, practised by women from Koniaków in the Silesian Beskids for more than a hundred years. Motifs known in the local dialect as “kwiotki” (“little flowers”) are arranged into doilies called “róże” or “różyćki” (“roses”), and the patterns are passed down from generation to generation. In 2017 this tradition was entered on the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The museum operates in the Koniaków Lace Centre, which is run by the Fundacja Koronki Koniakowskiej (Koniaków Lace Foundation). On 14 April 2020 the institution obtained the status of a private museum and was entered in the Wykaz Muzeów (List of Museums) kept by the minister responsible for culture and national heritage. Its curator is its founder, Lucyna Ligocka-Kohut.
The exhibition tells the story of Koniaków lace in a modern way. It presents doilies and other traditional products of the finest Koniaków lacemakers, old historic exhibits, new works and old photographs. The centre also organises workshops, lace fashion shows, fairs and the Dni Koronki Koniakowskiej (Koniaków Lace Days) festival.
