About the museum
The Muzeum Miasta Ostrowa Wielkopolskiego holds collections documenting the cultural heritage of the town and its surroundings: archaeology, ethnography, history, art and mementos of old Ostrów. For many years its seat was the town hall on the Rynek, where the exhibitions “Wypisy z dziejów miasta” (Excerpts from the History of the Town), “Salonik dawnych mistrzów Ostrowa” (Salon of the Old Masters of Ostrów), “W kuchni Babuni” (In Grandma’s Kitchen) and “Muzeum 3D. Ulicami dawnego Ostrowa” (3D Museum: Through the Streets of Old Ostrów) were shown.
The museum has been given use of the former shooting range (Strzelnica) building of 1867 at ul. Wolności 2a. In the new seat, on 16 May 2026, the permanent exhibition “Szembek i inni. Galeria naszych mistrzów” (Szembek and Others: Gallery of Our Masters) opened, devoted to deceased painters associated with Ostrów or represented in the museum’s collections, centred on the paintings of Stanisław Szembek. The building also has a room for temporary exhibitions. The exhibitions in the town hall are currently temporarily closed.
The museum runs lessons and workshops for organised groups, organises meetings and book promotions, and holds a graphic art competition. Souvenirs and publications can be bought at the museum kiosk, and a virtual walk through the exhibitions is available on the website.
