About the museum
The Muzeum Regionalne Ziemi Sulmierzyckiej is housed in the wooden town hall on the market square in Sulmierzyce, most probably built in 1743. This date appears on the portal and on the weathervane of the small tower, and the first document mentioning the building dates from 1765. The town hall is listed as a monument of “class zero” and is considered a rare example of this type of building in Europe.
Sulmierzyce is one of the oldest towns in Greater Poland to have received town rights, already in the 13th century. The museum is named after Sebastian Fabian Klonowicz.
The exhibition presents archaeological, historical and ethnographic collections: old interior furnishings, antique furniture, lamps, clocks, and objects illustrating the crafts and everyday life of the region’s residents. The museum also includes the wooden post mill (koźlak) “Jakub”, with its milling equipment.
