About the museum
The Muzeum Miejskie w Wąbrzeźnie (Municipal Museum in Wąbrzeźno) was founded in June 2001. Its first home was a 19th-century former mill at ul. 1 Maja. In 2011, because of the poor technical condition of the building, the entire display was moved to the Wąbrzeski Dom Kultury (Wąbrzeźno Cultural Centre), where it is still on show today.
The collections are now displayed in a room next to the gallery on the first floor of the cultural centre. The exhibition presents both objects of high craftsmanship and simple everyday items from old households. Visitors can see, among other things, furniture from the early 20th century – a table, a sideboard, a bed, cabinets and chests of drawers – as well as the historic chronicles of the Wąbrzeski Dom Kultury. Paintings created during local plein-air painting events in 2012 and 2013 hang on the walls. The wooden furniture is gradually undergoing conservation.
The same building houses the permanent exhibition area, which includes an exhibition on the PRL (Polish People’s Republic), the exhibition “Ikony” (Icons) with works by Ignacy Kowaliszyn, paintings from the plein-air events and photographs of Wąbrzeźno.
