About the museum
The Museum of the Carmelite Fathers was established in the 1980s in the hall of the former sacristy of the Carmelite monastery at Piasek, known as the Treasury (Skarbiec). Together with the archive and the library of early prints, it forms the collections of the Polish province of the order, which was established in 1692.
The collection includes papal bulls, monastery and royal documents, early prints and liturgical objects: monstrances, chalices and reliquaries. One of the most valuable exhibits is a cloak of Turkish velvet, which King John III Sobieski gave to the monastery in gratitude for the victory at Vienna.
The museum is open to organised groups by prior arrangement. Individual visitors can see it during the Cracovia Sacra event in mid-August.
