About the museum
The Muzeum Ojcowskiego Parku Narodowego (Ojców National Park Museum) was founded in 1965. Its first seat was the villa “Jadwiga”, where the park administration is housed today, and in 1972 it moved into the building of the former “Pod Łokietkiem” hotel. The exhibition was extended in 1978–1979. The museum formerly bore the name of Professor Władysław Szafer, whose memorabilia were shown in the exhibition.
In February 2008 the old exhibition was closed and renovation of the building began. The works were completed in January 2010, and the new exhibition was opened to visitors in April 2010. The facility now functions as the Educational and Museum Centre of the Ojców National Park (Centrum Edukacyjno-Muzealne Ojcowskiego Parku Narodowego), and the exhibition is now called the Natural Exhibition (Ekspozycja Przyrodnicza).
The visit begins with a 3D film screening, after which visitors go through the rooms devoted to geology, a reconstructed cave, a model of the park at a scale of 1:2000 and the main diorama showing three habitats, with a guide. At stereoscopic stations about 400 photographs of fungi, plants and insects can be viewed. The exhibition presents the fauna, flora, geology, hydrology and climate of the Prądnik Valley (Dolina Prądnika) and environmental protection.
