About the museum

The Krzeszowice Land Museum grew out of the initiative of several people who in 1975 set up the Social Organising Committee of the Regional Chamber (Izba Regionalna). They wanted to gather regional material and show it to residents. To enlarge the circle of supporters, the Association of Friends of the Krzeszowice Land was founded in 1978. In 1982 the association received two small rooms in the so-called Old Palace of the Potocki family, and there it opened its first regional chamber exhibition, in which religious themes, memorabilia of Father Rafał Kalinowski and the history of the local fire brigade took up much space.

A breakthrough came in 1984, when the association received the house at ul. Krakowska 30 as a testamentary bequest from Anna Studencka. In line with the donor's wishes, the building was intended as the seat of the museum. In 1985–1987 it was rebuilt and the attic was adapted for the exhibition of regional collections, while the ground floor was given to the arts gallery of the cultural centre. The official opening of the institution took place on 12 December 1987.

The museum is still run by the same association, the oldest non-governmental organisation in Krzeszowice. It presents the history of the Krzeszowice land, including the Tęczyński and Potocki families, models of monuments such as Tenczyn Castle, the Zwierzyniecka Gate and the no longer existing wooden church of St Martin, old postcards, documents and portraits of distinguished residents. The collections also include furniture, vessels, paintings, folk costumes, an arranged room of the poet Stanisław Czycz, a nativity scene by Tadeusz Gillert and equipment of the first Krzeszowice firefighters, which is shown in a barn next to the house.
