About the museum

The museum “Pamięć i Tożsamość” (Memory and Identity) named after St John Paul II is a state cultural institution established in July 2018 under an agreement between the Minister of Culture and National Heritage and the Lux Veritatis Foundation. The statute was granted by the minister’s order of 29 June 2018, and the institution was established on 2 July of the same year. It is still listed as a museum “in organisation”.

The building at ul. Droga Starotoruńska was opened to visitors on 19 October 2023. The museum aims to present the more than thousand-year history of Poland through the most important events, figures and ideas that shaped statehood, culture and national identity. In the narrative a special role is played by Christianity, the national community, freedom and solidarity, and the perspective of St John Paul II.

Besides the permanent exhibition, the museum presents temporary exhibitions, organises cultural events, film screenings and educational activities. The exhibition uses modern media, and tickets are sold at the ticket office and online.
