About the museum
The Muzeum Komunikacji Miejskiej (Museum of Urban Transport) is located in the tram depot at ul. Sienkiewicza in Toruń. It is run by the Miejski Zakład Komunikacji (Municipal Transport Company), the operator of Toruń’s trams and buses. The institution, also called the Izba Pamięci Toruńskich Tramwajów (Memory Room of Toruń Trams), has been operating since 2008 and documents the history of public transport in the city.
The collections include, among others, a fragment of the rail of the first tram track in Toruń, a rich collection of archive photographs, models of summer trams and sets of ticket punches with pliers. Also on show are tram route boards from the occupation period, the 1894 timetable of horse-drawn trams, a cinema projector from the Tramwajarz Cinema, a die for striking commemorative tokens, and old uniforms of staff with their equipment.
The tour offer “Ocalić od zapomnienia… tramwaje toruńskie” (Saving from Oblivion… Toruń Trams) is aimed especially at the youngest enthusiasts of public transport. Groups interested in a visit arrange it in advance with the Customer Service Office of MZK.
