About the museum

The year 1955 is taken as the date the museum was founded, but as early as 1951 the local parish priest, Father Edward Wojtusiak, had begun inventorying the church furnishings and other monuments in Dobra. He amassed a considerable collection of paintings, sculptures, craftwork and ethnographic souvenirs, which were entered into the register of monuments in 1971.

The museum is a branch of the Muzeum Diecezjalne w Tarnowie (Diocesan Museum in Tarnów) and occupies two rooms in the presbytery of the parish of Our Lady of the Scapular in Dobra, near Limanowa. The most valuable exhibits include a Bible published in Basel in 1568, a painting of Our Lady of the Scapular from 1760, a feretrum from 1700, sculptures of St Anne and St Joachim from the late 18th century, a document signed by King Sigismund III Vasa in 1592, and an iron chest with bolts from the 16th century. The collection also includes folk art.
