About the museum
The museum grew out of the Koło Pojazdów Zabytkowych (Historic Vehicles Circle), which was founded in 1971 at the Silesian Automobile Club in Zabrze. The museum is run by the Automobilklub Śląski (Silesian Automobile Club), based in Katowice, and its curator is Stefan Arendarczyk, a collector and enthusiast of old vehicles, who owns a large part of the exhibits.
The museum is housed in the former compressor house on the grounds of the Królowa Luiza mining open-air museum in Zabrze. The collections include both permanent exhibits and loans, so the display changes.
The collection includes, among others, a Franklin from 1919, a Willys Knight from 1929, an Opel P4 from 1931, a BMW 309 from 1934, a Daimler Majestic Major from 1966, a Miele motorcycle from 1936, a Lambretta scooter from 1958, the Polish cars FSO Polonez and Fiat 126 Bis, and a Volkswagen Beetle. Besides the vehicles, parts, car accessories, documents and advertisements relating to the history of motoring are shown.
