About the museum

The Muzeum Pożarnictwa w Oseredku im. Jana Łasochy grew out of a collection which Jan Łasocha had gathered since the 1960s while serving in the fire brigade in Tomaszów Lubelski. He collected, repaired and restored old equipment, which for years had been kept outdoors and in a shed. In the early 1990s the collection was shown in the premises of the local Ochotnicza Straż Pożarna (volunteer fire brigade).

The old building was not suitable for renovation, so in 2013 it was decided to build a new facility. Work began in 2014, and the cost of about PLN 1.03 million was covered partly from EU funds for the rural development programme and partly from the budget of Susiec commune. The building was opened on 26 October 2014, and the permanent exhibition on 5 June 2016. Since 2018 the museum has been an internal unit of the Gminny Ośrodek Kultury (Municipal Cultural Centre) in Susiec.

Two halls on the ground floor display motor pumps, hand fire pumps, fire wagons and trailers, helmets and ladders, and the mezzanine holds mementos such as banners, uniforms and musical instruments. Temporary exhibitions are also held on the mezzanine.
