About the museum
The room is housed in the building at ul. Lwowska 64, which belonged to the complex of the Powiatowy Urząd Bezpieczeństwa Publicznego (PUBP, county public security office) detention centre in Tomaszów Lubelski, operating from 1944 to 1956. Opponents of the communist regime were held there, mainly soldiers of the Home Army (Armia Krajowa), the Peasant Battalions (Bataliony Chłopskie) and WiN, who were imprisoned, tortured and killed. The building contained office rooms and an infirmary, and in 1948 cells for detainees were added. In the nearby building at ul. Lwowska 62 there were, among other things, cells and interrogation rooms.
After the detention centre was closed, the premises served as the archive of the district court. The room was opened to visitors in 2010, and in 2023 a new exhibition, realised with external funding, was opened.
The current exhibition presents the activities of the Tomaszów security apparatus and the fate of the victims of communist terror in 1944–1956. The room is a branch of the Muzeum Regionalne and also runs educational activities and events commemorating the Żołnierze Niezłomni (Cursed Soldiers).
