About the museum
The museum was set up in 1989–1994 on the initiative of Prelate Roman Marszalec, custodian of the Marian shrine in Krasnobród. It is housed in a building in the monastery courtyard, and in front of the entrance stand beehives hollowed out of fir trunks.
The collections form four exhibitions. On the ground floor is an ethnographic exhibition with old farm and household tools, weaving equipment and painted chests known as krasnobrodzkie. On the first floor more than a hundred specimens of limestone with imprints of plants and animals are shown, coming mainly from local quarries. Another exhibition presents products of Krasnobród pottery, a tradition that ended around 1993 with the death of the last potter. The last exhibition shows the fauna and flora of the Roztocze region: more than 250 plant species and many animals, with recordings of birdsong.
