About the museum
The Muzeum Przyrodnicze Bieszczadzkiego Parku Narodowego (Natural History Museum of the Bieszczady National Park) has operated in Ustrzyki Dolne since 1986 and is housed in the building of the Ośrodek Edukacji Ekologicznej (Centre for Ecological Education) at ul. Bełska 7. It is run by the Bieszczady National Park, which makes knowledge about the nature and history of the region accessible here.
Within a project subsidised by the Narodowy Fundusz Ochrony Środowiska i Gospodarki Wodnej (National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management), the centre together with the museum underwent almost two years of renovation and modernisation. In the new arrangement, visiting requires more activity from guests, and thanks to multimedia it reveals the secrets of Bieszczady nature.
On the ground floor there is a hall for temporary exhibitions; on the first floor, an exhibition on the geology and on the history and tourism of the region; and on the second floor, an exhibition on the fauna and flora of the Bieszczady, which leads visitors from the valley lands up to the summits of the połoniny (mountain meadows). A play zone “Dzikie królestwo rysia Pędzelka” (The Wild Kingdom of Lynx Pędzelek) has been prepared for the youngest visitors, and on the ground floor there is a café club where slide shows and nature films can be viewed.
