About the museum

The Park Miniatur Świątyń in Myczkowce opened on 16 October 2007, the anniversary of the election of John Paul II as Pope, to whom the place is dedicated. It was created on the grounds of the rest and rehabilitation centre of the Caritas of the Diocese of Rzeszów, as part of the Centrum Kultury Ekumenicznej (Ecumenical Culture Centre) named after Blessed John Paul II.

The models were made by a team under the direction of Janusz Kulig, a craftsman from Chmielnik near Rzeszów, and the grounds were designed by the architect Norbert Piekarski from Bliznego. The park, covering about 0.8 hectares and spread over ten hills, contains 140 wooden models at 1:25 scale. They depict former Catholic, Greek Catholic and Orthodox churches from south-eastern Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine.

The buildings are grouped by the regions inhabited by ethnographic groups, such as the Dolinians, Pogórzanie (Foothillers), Boykos and Lemkos. The combination of Latin and Byzantine architectural features is meant to recall the community of believers beyond divisions. The visit is complemented by music and religious singing, and by commentary in several languages at the information point. Nearby are the Ogród Biblijny (Biblical Garden), an exhibition of birds and animals, and the Centrum Promocji Obszarów Natura 2000 (Natura 2000 Promotion Centre).
