About the museum

The Regional Museum of the Chmielarski Brothers in Krzepice is a private institution founded in 1991 by the brothers Fr. Wacław Chmielarski (d. 2013) and Zygmunt Chmielarski. It is housed in their home at ul. Kuźniczka 40, and the historical memorabilia on display have been collected since the 1960s.

The collections include exhibits relating to sacred art, folk sculpture and artistic crafts (among them a jukebox from India), mining and metallurgy, military and folk costumes, militaria from the First and Second World Wars, and memorabilia of Józef Piłsudski.

Among the most interesting exhibits are a fragment of a Turkish tent from the Battle of Vienna in 1683, a marble table at which, according to tradition, the rulers of Russia, Germany and Austria-Hungary reached an agreement in 1873 known as the Three Emperors’ League (Sojusz Trzech Cesarzy), and a fragment of a chain with a padlock with which the gate of the cathedral in Sosnowiec was closed in 1967 during the celebrations of the millennium of the baptism of Poland. Visits take place after prior arrangement by telephone with the owner.
